Cecconi Types of Leather
The type of leather you choose for your sofa can be as important as the style of sofa, and can be tailor made to your specifications and needs. There are three different types of leather that can be chosen; Antique Leather, Premium Leather and Hand Dyed Leather.
Antique leathers are blackened before being fitted to the sofas frame. Once the leather has been fitted to the sofa frame, it is rubbed by hand and the colour below is revealed. When this has been completed it is then hand sealed to protect the leather and final finish. This type of leather finish gives an authentic and antique appearance. The antique leather finish is typically used for darker colours like brown, blue and burgundy.
A premium leather finish usually comes pre-treated from the factory with a special mixture of natural finishing ingredients. Because the premium leather is pre-treated it is softer to the touch and the grain is finer than the antique range. Premium leather is also available in many more colours and ranges from black, brown and green to lighter colours like sand, buckskin and white.
The ultimate leather for your sofa has to be hand dyed leather. Using time honoured techniques, the hand dying method of finishing leather has changed little over the centuries. The leather is vegetable tanned and hand dyed by a professional leather worker, before being sealed and sent for final assembly. Only the finest grained leather is used and the finish is a rich and deep colour. Hand dyed leather will develop its own character over time and will become better with age.
